I went for "Android Invasion" because the intrique in episode 1, the strange twitching UNIT soldier and the spooky deserted village is just superb.

It's not quite as formulatic as other Nation scripts either.

I like the bit where Styggrons brains get smashed in against the virus phial too and the cliffhanger ending to episode 2 is a classic.

Strange that this story often comes bottom of Season 13 polls, as a kid it spooked me a lot more than "Brain Of Morbius" ever did.

Did he never think to lift up his eyepatch? Laughing

Ah you mean Guy Crayford?

Yes, that was a bit of a daft flaw in Nations script, the general plot was all good apart from that flaw though.

Yes, I like it very much.

Am I right in thinking this story has a pretty poor reputation amongst fandom? Lot's of great/good stories seem to have bed reps. Surprised

"Android Invasion" is generally considered the weakest of Season 13 amongst fandom - personally, I think it's a bloody classic and better than "Brain Of Morbius".

I can't stand Morbius personally. Switch the general fandom reputations of Morbius and Attack and you have my opinion! Laughing

No votes for The Chase, Death or Destiny I see, I can't say I'm surprised.

Go on then... what's not to like about Morbius?

Hinchcliffe was away on leave at the time and wasn't the actual producer of this one and that's why it kind of stands out somewhat in Season 13's stories as being the jokey one of the set piece.

I didn't like the sillyness of it too much as a kid, but I appreciate the black humour of it more now that I'm older.

I think there's a lot more spookiness and intrigue and urgency to "Android Invasion" which fandom doesn't seem to rate as highly though...

I've always liked Android Invasion (nice to see Nation doing something other than re-heating the Daleks) and never understood why it's got such a bad rep.

But I also don't get this revisionist negativity towards Morbius.

Morbius is cool, there is great characterisation and some blinding lines of dialogue in it, in fact there isn't a duff story in all of Season 13 as far as I'm concerned.

But trying to pin point which one is the weakest story in Season 13 is a bit tricky.

Probably because Nation's Dalek stories always get all the attention. I think Nation ran out of ideas for the Daleks after Master Plan, which is why his later Dalek stories reuse stuff from his earlier works. There were many great ideas in Death, but he didn't get much of a chance to flesh them out because he had to shoehorn the Daleks in.

Me neither, I think it's one of Baker's best gothic horror serials.

I agree. It's a great shame the paradigm has been inverted for NuPoo and picking an episode that isn't a heaving turd is the challenge.

(I hope I can say "paradigm" without Keith Topping thinking I live with my mother.)

Yes, it's like looking for glistening diamonds in the midst of a giant cess pit.

You might actually find one and pull one out, but either way you still come out covered in and smelling of shit.

Planet of Evil for me.
It's still pretty good, but i think all the other stories are a bit better.

I actually find it pretty damn difficult to choose, because I LOVE the jungle and dried corpses in "Planet Of Evil" and the sound of the anti-matter monster I found terrifying as a kid.

I veer towards "Brain Of Morbius" but as a black comedy it is undoubtedly one of the best with some terrific dialogue. In a Davison Season it would have been top of or near top of the polls though.

I must admit i never picked up on Morbius as silly, or a black comedy, even when i was a kid.
It's always been one of my favourites. Very Happy

I agree with you on those good points about Planet of Evil though. (along with Sladen's jeans) Razz
