Laughing Yeah alright, I like the rich spookiness of the picture on the old version, but it's not the end of the world.

*makes note to transfer VHS copy to dvd*

Must admit, you are right that the B&W print does have a sort of grittiness not exhibited in the colour prints.

I bet "Mind Of Evil" loses a level of its grit with colourisation too.

However, watching in colour is more of the purist format to watch in considering that was the way it was transmitted, even if no one could afford a fucking colour tv back then.

Hell, I didn't originally get to see Tom Baker in colour until Season 13 let alone Pertwee.

Does it feature the Planet episode in black & white as an extra?

I think they should have had it as a telesnap too just so fans could imagine if the episode didn't exist at all.

I wonder if it would be funny to do fake recons from fake telesnaps of stories that aren't missing - like Timelash say?

Or would it get really tired after about the third photo, like most online Who gaggery?

I think we should make a recon of "Timelash" which involves a soundtrack made with a taperecorder so that its all bassy and the dialogue hardly distinguishable, and consisting of telesnaps and the odd piece of 5 second film inserts made from off-screen captures taken with a wobbly hand-held video camera....

We could then phone up and ask the BBC if they would be interested in retaining this material in their archive along with all of the other stories they've fucked up, the cunts.

Laughing

Even better:

a dodgy audio recording from a 60s spool machine (complete with hiss and drop-outs) of Last of the Time Lords with occasional comments from Grandad saying how crap it is. This could be combined with someone else's sporadic attempts to film it in black and white on an old Super 8 camera.

DVD extra of Gary Russell saying how he recorded it on casette and colour-coded it. Unfortunately it's now lost.

I'm just watching Planet of the Daleks episode 2 with the commentary. How great to hear Katy Manning, Terrance Dicks, and dear Barry Letts point out that New Who lacks the "structural and emotional logic" of real Who. Katy is so accurate when she says that New Who only deals with "the moment." And how poignant and telling it is to hear Barry explain why New Who simply isn't as "scrupulous" in this regard.

What's the episode 3 colourisation like then? Successful or gaudy?

Pretty good. Some details look slightly odd on occasion, particularly skin tone and hair colouring.

If the other Pertwee stories with black and white episodes were colourised to this standard, I think it would be acceptable. When they get round to releasing Invasion of the Dinosaurs there should be an option to watch the first episode in either colour or black and white as it looks so atmospheric in the latter.

It's certainly interesting that we now have Dicks, Letts, Hinchcliffe, and Bidmead all criticising New Who with regard to its narrative and dramatic failings.

I know I am a fruitcake when it comes to this sort of Archive nerdiness, but "Invasion" episode 1 is almost seperate from the other 5 parts, and the B&W mysteriously emphasises it...

It's a weird coincidence that it fits so well, it feels like Day of the Triffids or Last Man on Earth

So yeah I'll kick off if it doesn't make the DVD Laughing which it mostly likely won't

We all know Davies and his cronies are complete and utter fucking cunts, but I had a depressing thought - it's being discussed elsewhere that there's no mention of Letts' death on the official website, what if it's because he was clever enough not to be taken in by Davies' drivel?
