Just got this from Play. I'm looking forward to seeing if my views on this have changed over the years since I last saw it. I always thought it was overrated like City of Death and nowhere near as good as earlier Tom stories like Seeds of Doom and Robots of Death.

Some good extras would be appreciated too.

The Robots of Death was not an earlier story, though. It came two stories later. Wink

The Deadly Assassin is wonderful. There's something cosily disorienting about those 'my domain' scenes.

My copy has been sent and should arrive on Monday. I'm very excited about this one; it's been one of my very favourites since its tranmission. My seven-year-old self was awestruck and terrified by this in equal measures.

I'm looking forward to pointing out why Rani is wrong.

Rani's "critique" hasn't exactly got off to a flying start, has it? Laughing

On a previous thread, Rani described The Deadly Assassin as "shit", no less. So I wouldn't get your hopes up about what Rani's critique has in store.

I wouldn't pay for a DVD of a story I thought was shit.

That's the beauty of the "why watch something you think is shit?" argument. It's been wheeled-out many times on various boards when people criticise New Who.

I've spent the princely sum of £0.00 on New Who DVDs. Mysteriously, Rani spends his hard-earned cash on stuff he clearly deosn't like. Odd. His purchase of the Trial of a Time Lord box-set is still a mystery.

Still, I'm looking forward to his comments about Deadly Assassin, particularly those concerning the Manchurian Candidate documentary.

Oops yes getting my chronology confused. I should have said "other" Tom stories. Very Happy

The Trial box set has probably the best set of extras on any DVD release and the final two installments I actually find reasonable despite the opinion of others.

In my post above I have only claimed that I think this story overrated not that it is "shit".

Not so. I note I also said it was overrated on that page too.

Besides my main point was that it is sub standard compared with the likes of Seeds of Doom.

Rani, you called it shit. Be a man and either confirm you think it's shit or admit that you were wrong and that it isn't THAT bad.

In my opinion, Hinchcliffe only produced two poor stories, these being Revenge of the Cybermen and The Android Invasion. Both were quite obviously neglected in the scripting process. Even then, I wouldn't go so far as to call them shit, as both the shows still have something to recommend them and would not have been considered so bad had they not been surrounded by so much quality.

I am happy to say it is shit if that's what you want. As I said in my OP I am interested to see if I come to a revised opinion when I watch the DVD as I haven't seen this since the VHS release.
