Having a new RTD script is a wet dream come true for that bunch over at GB. God, why did I ever go over there today?

You too, huh?

I lasted about three minutes, and that was more than enough for me. Oddly, I realise I've nothing against the squee brigade as such, aside from the fucking awful grammar - the ones that get me are those who spend most of the thread calling out anyone who doesn't think [name of 45 minutes of unadulterated shite in question] is quite so amazing - but we've been here before.

"How dare you give it a mere 9 out of 10???!!!1111!!!!!"

I've said somewhere before that I was accused by one member of GB of effectively murdering RTD's babies for calling a episode shit. I hasten to add this is not a majority opinion there, but it did rather stick, though.

I preferred the Kate O'Mara version of the Rani.

What a steaming bucket of shit that was... as expected. So now there's another bitter old woman pining for the Doctor?

The acting was terrible, the space emus ludicrous, the Fathead attempt at script-writing as cretinously inane as ever.

Apart from his usual overblown, desperate-to-be-hip, witless shite, does Fathead even re-read his bum wipings to see if they've been near common sense?

Two Unit Land Rovers and a car comes screeching round a corner like Starsky and Hutch, disgorge at least six personnel who proceed to wave machine guns round in a suburban street all with the intention of... announcing a bereavement?! Why not just abseil through the windows and fire stun grenades while you're at it?

Jo (and her grand-brat) spend five minutes bragging about what hardcore environmental activists they are and then she announces... she's got SEVEN kids?! Obviously they're interested in the sort of environmentalism that doesn't concern itself with population growth or carrying capacity.

You'd think this kind of sloppy shitheadedness would at least be picked up by a decent script editor but then you see the name... Gary Russell.

And wasn't Matt playing Tennant?

Of late I've found myself having to avert my eyes during moments when Rani's on screen. Having her crawl towards camera in a low cut top earlier this season was the most awkward so far, supplanting even the dress she wore in The Wedding of Sarah Jane Smith (an episode which in itself contained quite a lot of Lis in various shots).

To be honest, I just can't help thinking of the Google adventure that awaits those kids when they search for Jo Grant or Katy Manning.

Yes it is wrong. It should be fewer clothes, or less clothing.

There's just one thing I want to say to all that.

WHO THE FUCK GAVE RUSSELL FUCKING T DAVIES THE RIGHT TO DECIDE THE FATES OF THE CLASSIC SERIES COMPANIONS?! Mad

That just pissed me off. Story was shit.

On the plus side, the flashbacks to Jon and Tom were nicely done, and Matt was superb, working with RTD's lines that were obviously written with Tennant in mind. Mad

I'd still give it a Barrowman though.

Wow!

That wasn't just fan wank, it was meta fan wank.

The only problem is that is was written by someone who seemingly doesn't understand one thing about the history of Doctor Who and the characters therein. One example: why on Earth does Davies think that the older Jo would consider herself to be an idiot in Doctor's eyes? Yes, he thinks she's a naïve girl for a few episodes of Terror, then the relationship becomes one of solicitude and grows Pygmalian-style until Jo is independent. The Doctor taught, and Jo learnt. The character grew from Terror to The Green Death in a way that is unthinkable for Davies's crudely sketched one-dimensional parodies of characters. The are all simply "magnificent."

Still, it's always good to see Troughton and a Sea Devil on screen. And Primeval actress Laila Rouass, who played the Unified Nations Idiocy Team's Colonel, is always pleasing on the eye.
