Got this today. Weak story but some nice extras. Love the periodic documentaries on the comic strips. An interesting look at the 7th Doctor's comic adventures. Not listened to the documentary yet.

I'm afraid that Season 24 stories are probably going to be the last DVDs I get round to getting from the classic series, if I even bother with them at all. I just can't can't get excited about them, I think it was the lowest ebb of the old show.

Opps. I forgot that this was due out. I'll order it with The War Games.

I don't think this is a "weak" story at all. It's rather charming.

For once I am in agreement with Rob. I think the soundtrack is dreadful, it is too slaptstick and it is poorly realised.

This isn't a thread about New Who.

Indeed, it is about Delta and the Bannermen.

I'm surprised Rani doesn't like "Delta and the Bannermen" myself, in many ways it's a pre-curser for RTD's RemakeWho.

A cartoony story set in Wales full of whimsy mawkish gushingness and idiot comedy characters with the odd pop-culture reference thrown in for good measure.

However, unlike the RTD-era, "Delta and the Bannerman" was a one-off story instead of a fucking formula for an entire decade of seasons.

This story has none of the elements that made the continuation Who a great success. Delta is played for laughs but just isn't funny.

And belching wheelie bins, farting aliens, guns up Barrowman's arse, and fellating paving slabs are an improvement in what way?

They are presented for credibly than having a comedy soundtrack and pratfalls.

How about I turn the question round, in what way is the farce in Delta better than those stories you criticise?

Ken Dodd is prettier than Billie Piper and funnier/less annoying than Catherine Tate Very Happy
