Liam requested that I put up some pics of my Doctor Who custom action figures.

For any that don't know me, I have been customising action figures since 1984, and I work exclusively in the 1:18 scale. for the uninitiated, that is 4 inches or a standard Star Wars figure.

I use primarily GI Joe and Star Wars figures, but I also use Chap Mei, Lanard or anything else that comes to hand. I will give the recipes for each figure, but when it says 'custom cast', it just means that I have made a mold of the original and cast a copy in resin or high density plaster.

Any questions about how to make any of these for yourselves, just ask.

So first up, Doctors 1 to 4:

And finally for now:

Azal:

Whole Figure: 12 inch Action Man, haevily modded with the face completely resculpted with pointy ears and hair. Fake fur on the legs and epoxy clay hooves.

This is a 12 inch figure, but it is in scale with 4 inch figures, Bok has now been finished and joins his master. I used a PTE scuba diver for him:

BTW, if anyone is interested, when I was making the Davros, I took pictures of the work in progress as I went along. If you like, I will post the pics to give an idea how it was made.

Gotta say, I'm totally impressed. You can tell a lot of love has gone into those figures, nice work.

"Lord Nimon! Lord Nimon! It is I! Soldeed!"

Let's face it, we are never going to get a figure of this guy, so I made one:

I love those, they are really good. I especially like the Soldeed one. Very Happy

Out of interest how long does it take on average for you to make one of those Kambei?

Brigadier Alistair Gordon Lethbridge Stewart:

I am particularly pleased with this one. Very simple to make. The entire figure is a repainted and slightly modified Star Wars 30th Anniversary Rebel Honour Guard.
The only thing I might change is the uniform colour. I recently got hold of a very accurate British Army Drab paint.

How long is a piece of string? Laughing

It varies from custom to custom. I did a lazy Wolverine/Logan custom recently that took literally 30 seconds. I have done others that took a large amount of sculpting and painting that took about two weeks working on a part everyday. The Doctors took about three days each as I had to use slow setting epoxy clays on them. Romana and teh Brigadier took about two days each as they were quite simple. Davros took two weeks to get right as I had to cut and shape some of the parts in the workshop. Azal and Bok took about a week between them. Azal's face was a three day job to get it right.

I would say, though, that the most complex custom I ever did was this:

I drilled every single hole for the pins with a 0.5mm bit and put a 0.25mm piece of jewellers wire into each hole and then cut them to size. I am getting ready to redo that one using a better figure.

Isn't that the ninth Doctor?

Love the original concept Daleks, in my opinion they're your best customs. Fantastic work!
