Funnily enough it was curse of fenric I was persuaded to try again! I remember thinking this was one of the best McCoys at the time, which wasnt saying much as I wasnt a McCoy fan! I have to say I didnt make it to the third episode Sad Maybe I will try again in a couple of years.
I have most of them on VHS from taping them off telly at the time, simply because I used to be more of a completist.
Now, I know some people swear McCoy was actually really intelligent and deep etc, I just cant deal with his stories and the acting / production.
In all fairness it may not have been McCOy's fault really, the rot had already started to set in, but I find his era a bit lacklustre. I would almost rather sit through the gunfighters again, but luckily no ones pointing a gun at me ;)
To each their own though!!!!

I suspect the Gunfighters would be much better if they could drop the god awful song. Please let that be an option on the DVD...

I agree. I don't get why Curse of Fenric is rated so highly? Battlefield is better, imo. Battlefield, Remembrance and Ghost Light are the only McCoys I can actually stomach.

I gave up on watching Who sometime during Season 25. I kept recording it but it took nearly twenty years for me to bring myself to watch them.

Still haven't seen Happiness Patrol but the only McCoy I like is Ghost Light.

I really don't get what people see in Fenric and Survival. They might be marginally better than shit like Silver Nemesis and Battlefield but that, frankly, wouldn't be hard.

If anyone could explain what I'm missing in Fenric and Survival, I'm more than willing to listen.

Survival does the urban scene realistically, unlike new Who.

The Happiness Patrol is fucking excellent.

The Curse of Fenric is one of the best stories ever. To be honest, the ant-Sylv brigade has only ever made snese to me as a kind of ingrained bias, an opposite of the rose tinted glasses effect. Season 26 is one of the bext examples of classic Who IMHO. I wish the modern stuff were a tenth as good.

But then, I've never understood why anyone likes Morbius, when I think it's badly made, badly acted (Sladen has never been worse (well, in old Who anyway) and even Tom looks bored), badly written sub-panto rubbish that I can't sit through anymore. I watched it for years trying to see this great classic I keep hearing about and finally realised that not only was it not there, but that it's actually quite awful. Razz

Well i really like Remembrance, and i like all of S26. Even Battlefield.
On the other hand, i really don't like Crapiness Patrol, and all of S24, except for Dragonfire, which is tolerable.
That just leaves Silly Nemesis, which is pretty wank, but i'd still prefer it to the first three stories from S24. And The Greatest Show in the Galaxy, which is just fucking dull.

I adore Greatest Show. Wish they'd hurry the hell up with the dvd release, instead of rushing out TATR and rereleasing stories we've already had once. Rolling Eyes

Actually, Survival is alright. It was starting to get watch able again but even still. It went to shit during Trial of a Timelord, imo, and then got alright towards the very end. Three years of kids pantomime.

"greatest show" (lol) really was from the abyss. I can remember at the time as a kid being really embarassed by it, why attempt to put some kind of awful pseudo rap in who ffs???? It was dated when it was new.
I find it hard to imagine that people involved with the McCoy years had some kind of a warm glow after completing a story, surely they must have cringed at the turkeys they regularly shat out??

The 'warm glow' came from pissing themselves laughing at what they were getting away with.

I watched Battlefield recently and cringed through most if it. The direction was weak, the music was poor and the Brigadier was as poorly used as he was in Mawdryn. The story was pap and the acting was appalling with Angela Bruce being the most embarrassing of the lot.

What's with the "shame" thing? Is it some kind of foreign expression that she ballsed up or what?

I absolutely agree with everything, except that I really enjoyed it.

A complete misfire that didn't even make sense. However, ignore the story and some of the acting (Brig, Ace and Friend, Mordred) and there's some performances to really enjoy. Brigadier Bambera and Ancelyn are hilarious, McCoy is good and Jean Marsh is wonderful.

Admittedly its not much, but it puts it ahead of The Twin Dilemma.

Acknowledging its myriad faults and still enjoying it I can understand.

What did you think of Fenric and Survival? I thought Fenric was a classic Who idea that was hopelessly underwritten and produced like a pantomime.

I had high hopes for Survival but I thought a lot of it was farcical. I like Ainley but I didn't think it was his best performance - contrary to popular opinion - and in the context of everything else not being great, it was hard to get over the Lloyd-Webber style naffness of the Cheetah people.

Which McCoy was the one with the ludicrous motorcycle face-off?

I like all Classic Who up until Grades hiatus and then it turns unbelievably shit, worse than Williams Season 16 and 17(which had been the weakest Seasons up to that point)

The only story I can really bear to re-watch post Season 22 is maybe "Remembrance Of The Daleks"

I didn't even like Season 26 even if a lot of the panto was dropped because the scripts made no fucking sense and the bizarre dialogue was like all the characters were in the midst of having mental breakdowns.
