Hello all,

I thought this might be a useful thread to have around, and I cant remember the name of a film I want to watch Laughing Can anyone ID it from this vague description??

I think this film was made in the 90s. It is set in an orphanage in the middle of the Spanish civil war. The protagonist is a small boy, about 10, and basically the orphanage is haunted to fuck..... Its a bit vague i know. I watched this on Bravo back in the early 2000s/ late 90s and really enjoyed it, but the name of it escapes me. I think it was Spanish language, but I could be wrong?

Anyone know what I am talking about????????? Very Happy

TV series. Late 80s/early 90s, I think. Saturday or Sunday evening.

It was ITV's attempt to do Twin Peaks, offbeat stories set in a northern village/small town, so sort of Twin Peaks Practice.

Midway between a serial and an anthology, each episode focussed on a different character with other characters recurring from episode to episode.

The only episode I recall featured some mysterious character who resembled Ned Kelly frightening people in the village. Ultimately it turned out to be some local bloke wearing a coal scuttle on his head.

Only lasted one season (six weeks?), not a typical ITV weekend show and possibly a bit better than I've made it sound. Maybe.

Any ideas?

It might have been "Wokenwell", an ITV show about a strange English
town.

From Wikipedia: "Wokenwell was a British drama series that aired in 1997. Produced by LWT for the ITV network, it centered on three policemen and their wives living in the fictional northern England town of Wokenwell."

Thanks, VV. I don't remember the police part of it but it sounds likely in most other ways.

Did you see it? Was it any good?

I'm just going to leave a note here for the next time I forget:

The film with the blue fire and the underground, generically 'ancient' society is She, made in 1965.

I seem to forget this periodically, and then waste hours and hours trying to work out what it was again.

I get this but with half remember kids TV some of which was probably school programming. Heck, while I'm here I'll chuck them in anyway:

A young boy climbs a chimney and talks with what transpires to be the ghost of another young boy (or more likely there's some time travel involved) employed as a chimney sweep, then (if there is time travel involved, after returning to his present time) discovering the skeleton of same boy up the chimney.

ALSO, the vaguest of the vague, some kids have a map marked with sinister locations, like the lair of a vampire and stuff and then at the end (or possibly the end of an episode), the camera moves onto the signpost map of a modern housing estate revealing it to be the same basic map as the scary one.

Despite saying "housing estate", I don't believe the last one had anything to do with RTD as I think it was before he even got stuck into Why Don't You/ let alone anything else.

I recall a canadian series about a boy who gets bullied and falls from a great height whilst trying get back his fathers telescope. he awakes in a strange world which is run by children in some sort of militant society. Meanwhile in the real world his mother and friends try to help him out of the coma which effects the world he's now in.

Any ideas?
