D'OH!

DWB was Leigh's controversial fanzine, infamous for aggressively calling
for JNT to be sacked after the 1985 hiatus.

I recall a DWM article suggesting Levy's anti-JNT obsession was about more than the stuff he was producing. Very oblique, but something along the lines of "One particular publication fanned the flames in pursuit of a very personal vendetta..."

Hmmmm... Did JNT dump his sorry ass in a former life, perhaps?

That's one of the rumours around DW fandom, along with several
others (a certain DW actor only got the role by allegedly being
"very friendly" with one of the producers Wink ).

Oh, we're all so responsible in our gossip. I want names! I realise I probably won't get them, but it doesn't mean I don't want.

I remember reading Dreamwatch magazine and being baffled as to why it used to sometimes call itself DWB. Eventually I pieced together that it used to be a Doctor Who fanzine that got out of control and I think I did eventually hear the name Doctor Who Bulletin and it all fell into place - I'm glad it did, as I don't like leaving these strands hanging if I can help it.

Fucking boring replies R me.

DWB used to stand for Doctor Who Bulletin until then Doctor Who Monthly editor John Freeman complained to the BBC. Gary Leigh no doubt had a deep and personal hatred for JNT, however, the reason for this hatred is unknown, and I'd suggest everyone stops speculating on this right now. Aside from facing down threats of legal action from Anthony Ainley, JNT and the Nation Estate, Leigh has on at least one previous occasion started legal proceedings himself against a high profile fan for Defamation of Character. In response he received a groveling apology and a large sum of money.

The Cunt is at it again with his JN-T hatred/obsession

Quote:
Hi Bobj, firstly, thanks for supporting some of my postings here. On an earlier posting on this thread I dared suggest that JNT exhibited psychopathic tendencies, but fearing the backlash this would invite from the 1980s PC DW brigade I hastily nipped back and edited the reference out. The fact is that today, to speak one's truth, you risk a tirade of venomous abuse because, for many people, hearing the truth is clearly too painful or does not fit in with preconceived agendas, viewpoints, etc.

So, to those of you who continue to spit your bile and venom at me for daring to suggest such an appalling thing, read this:

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/health/3579402.stm

For anyone who knew JNT or were in his circle to deny that he exhibited such traits, I say read the above article and then tell me I am wrong?

Fucking twat, I'm really starting to buy into IanK's theory of Leigh and JN-T being bum buddies ...

Our lawyers have asked us to make the HIGNFY defence in one
of your posts.. Wink

EDIT: Gary Gillatt on Gary Leigh's ligitious nature:
Quote:

"There were a number of things I considered carefully, and certainly Gary Leigh/Levy of Dreamwatch and DWB was very abusive on the phone, threatening all kinds of legal action if we printed anything derogatory to him or Dreamwatch during JNT's chapters on the late eighties. I only wondered why he felt so insecure. What was he expecting JNT to reveal?

Putting 'allegedly' into a claim doesn't stop it being defamatory.

How does it work then? How can you say "There are rumours
Politician X,the drugs czar, is allegedly a heroin addict?" without
getting dragged into the courts?

I don't know if that's a real example, but there are 3 practical ways round it

1. If your output is generally considered satirical and not to be taken literally (eg Viz)

2. If your target is generally considered of bad character and so wouldn't suffer any damage from defamation (eg notorious murderers)

3. You are a professional defendant (like a tabloid paper) and your target can't afford the risk of suing you
