The Keys of Marinus is being released on DVD in 2009.

This is brilliant news.

Fucking yes! The Voord! Heard of these dudes when I was about nine years old on the I Was A Doctor Who Monster video, and thought they looked damned awesome.
Thanks for lightening up my evening, B!

Noooooo! This is the only story I have ever switched off and never watched to the end. Laughing I'll have to give it another go.

It's got its moments but it's a real endurance test, a case of 'Ah thank Kroll, they're in the snow, we're halfway through' and 'Hurray, the Doctor was waiting in Millennius, it's the last lap.'

Well the DVD will give me an incentive to try again. The early Hartnells are generally great. Laughing

In the case of it being an endurance test, I find that with a few of the earlier serials, because they are so long, intensely intelligent and, well, 'talky', you have to have breaks, which is why they were broadcast weekly.
However, I've never, ever turned off when watching The Daleks, certainly one of the greatest Doctor Who stories in history.

I like "Marinus", I didn't find it boring at all.

It's a neat little anthology of stories and the constantly changing locations and storyline make each episode seem fresh, rather than some of the other 6-parters where you're looking at the same fucking scenery for over 2 hours.

I've only read the book. Philip Hinchcliffe had a miserable time adapting it I'm told.

One thing that annoys me about the fan critique about Keys of Marnius is that it's another excuse to for some fans with an blatant disrespectful anti-Terry Nation agenda to slate it as another example (supposedly) of Nation's lack of writing ability.

it shits me constantly how some arseholes in fandom constanly pot Nation, I actually really enjoy his non-Dalek stories, Marnius and Androit Invasion.

Some fans try to compare him with that creative despot Walt Disney.

It is very very annoying how some people respect the driving force behind Doctor Who's success.

These same fans are the ones who look upon Regurgiated Turd Dickface as the messiah of Doctor Who and rate drivel like Last of the Time Turds and Crud and Dogshit (Love and Monsters)

It saddens me the way over the years, great people for Doctor Who, like Nation and Pertwee esp have been treated with contempt by some neo-con type fans who are ashamed of their childhood.

I don't think these so-called "agendas" are widespread in fandom. Personally I don't like Marinus but think some of his other stuff is good. I've just finished reading his Survivors novel which is a bit wearisome in places but is generally good and has a truly shocking end for anyone who has watched either TV series.

Just about everyone connected with it, save William Russell and Carole Ann Ford, is dead though. Not a huge amount you can do with it I imagine.

Isn't Fiona Walker still with us?

I liked KoM when I first saw it, but now I think it's rather
dated-it reminds me of a 1930s movie serial.

I liked Hinchcliffe's "Mask of Mandragora" novelisation.
