Leos Janácek, The Adventures of Mr Broucek

Opera North
Martin André

Incredibly silly time-and-space-travelling Czech opera.

Yep, for a month or so now I believe, tonight I will find out. I suppose its to get more people to come along as there are actually now few other Goth nights on s Saturday when before you wouldn't bother due to most people going to Slimes.
Fits well with the 3 floor thing when they also have movies playing and Ice Cream aswell.
Synthetic Culture when it was going at the Egg Club used to do something similar I believe.

I'd quite like to see Public Image. Don't think i've even seen them live before.

Last night myself and our worthy constituent Biroc heard the brilliant Carolin Widmann and Denes Varjes play the three violin sonatas by Schumann at the Wigmore Hall in London.

I'm still trying to take in everything I heard at this incredible concert. Such intense and powerful playing from Widmann. I was shocked at what a physical musician she is; at times it was as if she was attempting to become the music itself. Biroc and I were so close to her that the sheer visceral nature of her playing was immediately present. This not to say it was without delicacy - the middle movement of the first sonata was subtle in its lyricism without ever descending into facile sentimentality. This was music making close to the edge, particularly in the outer movements of the second sonata. It wasn't merely music that moved discursively from A to B - it opened an entire region therein; a region that the players, the music, and the audience all traversed. A stunning recital that will live long in my memory.

Yes, to second B, it was stunning. The technical mastery was completely hidden by the passion and subtlety of the interpretation - until, in a brief moment, you could glimpse an amazing piece of skill and you realised that there was an amazing piece of technical assurance under the entire performance...and then you forgot about it again as she pulled you back in to the wonderful music. Big up to B too for the excellent daal/bean/courgette curry that he made to break up my journey back up North...

Seeing noise/drone pioneers sunn 0 tonight

Sunn are famous for having such loud, bass heavy shows that big hairy metal dudes throw up, faint etc at shows

Coupled with the fact that the show is at the Koko, the sound system of which killed a student last week Shocked should be interesting Laughing

Saw Marilyn Manson in Brixton, always been a big defender of his live shows, but it wasn't up to scratch the other night, bit fat, cheapo production etc. I enjoyed it very much but it wasn't a patch on shows like the Docklands one in 2001. Ah well!

Quite amusing to see how many of the north london metaller-than-thou types were down the front Laughing no-one has to know

Aren't they the band that play such low frequencies that the audience have been known to shit themselves?

Enjoy the show Liam, and don't crap your pants.

Public Image Ltd at electric ballroom camden.

Wasn't going to go as family members & esteemed mates such as our Filth advised me they went shit in 1992. Managed to score two tickets for a tenner, so thought why not

Well I have to say, thank fuck I did... against all odds, a SUPERB show

tracks I remember

annalisa
public image
this is not a love song
albatross
rise
black rubber band

Only really know their earlier stuff so there you go

plus lots of music hall esque crowd baiting courtesy of Mr Rotten - decent showman, kicks the fuck out of the panto sex pistols show I saw, which just made me feel like my whole life was a lie Laughing

This on the other hand was great, post punk with depth charge bass played on an upright - spot on

Well the Mahler concert was stunning.
Odd to to think that Motorhead, The Damned and Girlschool played the same venue just a few weeks ago. But unlike the Halle orchestra last night, they left the roof intact.
