As I have absolutely no time for McGann's Doctor and thoroughly deplore fan fiction in all its forms I'll be passing on this. I would, however, welcome all-out war on NooHoo in general and in particular Davies, Moffat and their fundamentalist supporters on that vile forum. I'm talking proper fuck off terrorist tactics here, and I'm not joking.

Sad, I know, but it's best to let it go. It's been ruined by a clown

Yup, and his clown-like supporters such as Rani, with their big red noses and floppy clown boots.

Isn't that already a DWM comic strip with the 8th Dr?

That's about as canon as the Century 21 Dalek strips.

On the bright side: Seeds of Doom is out on DVD soon.

I'm afraid i agree with B.
Besides, the majority of the fan-fic i have ever encountered, has been severely embarrassing. (And i'm not talking about Nu-Who fanfic, either)

Having said that, perhaps making audio adventures is an option for those interested in getting their own stories together. Plenty of people have done it.

http://dwexpanded.wikia.com/wiki/Category:Audio_Production_Groups

Although obviously it would require those taking part to have some acting ability, and the means to record their voices, and would need someone with the technology to do audio editing.
But it might be an easier option than making videos. Just a thought.

I think I'm getting an idea, perhaps we could do something set in the Doctor Who universe, but not featuring the Doctor. Maybe something featuring UNIT so we can correct all the NuWho retcon shite, like the 'Unified' thing.

Funnily enough, the last few posts prompted me to the very same thought before I saw your comment.

I think fan Who is only ever going to be fan Who - and the Doctor will never be reincarnated as a 15 year old with a strong Bristol accent. On the other hand, I don't know if anyone ever saw those BBV (I think) vids - Auton, but they got around the problem with a UNIT story featuring another entirely human scientific advisor - I can't recall the character or the actor's name right now, but the end result was seriously terrific, never mind NuWho, probably better than any Real Who since at least Colin's first season.

In other words, best to avoid the pitfalls of anything which tries to be something it can never be.

Auton was brilliant, far better than any of NuWho.

Just to confirm: anything post-2005 is as of now, non-canon?

Sure, just pointing out that it's already been done.

I think it's the bit where (just had a quick look at the cover for the names) the new scientific advisor shows up, and someone remarks 'so you're Lockwood,' and our boy drawls 'I know... wretched isn't it?'

That's when it felt like the real deal, for me. Very Happy

I agree with B3, if you really are unhappy with the quality of post-2005
DW, the best thing to do is stick to the Classic Series DVDs and ignore
the New series.

Making your own DW fan stuff is an interesting idea, but anything that
treads on copyright will get the BBC lawyers after you (unless it's something like a charity anthology, or a small audio distributed among friends). A non-fiction book might get by as well if you put "This publication is not authorised by the BBC" on the cover.

And it should also be pointed out there are some folk who are quite
enjoying the RTD-free series of Doctor Who, like myself. Cool

They rarely bother going after fan made productions as long as they are not produced for profit. Loose Cannon's recons of missing episodes are technically a copyright infringement because they use audio, photographs and footage that belongs to the BBC, but they aren't distributed for monetary gain so the Beeb leaves them alone. So we could probably make a few DVDs or write some stories of our own without lawyers breathing down our necks.

Is the unused option for the third Cushing movie still out there? It's
a very long shot, but... Wink

The third film was going to be based on The Chase, and let's just say it's not my favourite Hartnell, it gives what it promises but it isn't Doctor Who at it's best.
