Neil Gaiman has revealed more details about his forthcoming Doctor Who episode.

The writer confirmed to Doctor Who Magazine that the instalment will reference elements of the show's past.

"It all starts in void-space, with something or someone we have not seen since [1969 story] 'The War Games', and a knock on the Tardis door," he explained. "The guest star... is the brilliant Suranne Jones, playing someone who is beautiful... and who bites. [She] might just turn out to be an old acquaintance with a new face."

Gaiman's episode is expected to air third in the next run, but he explained that the story was originally intended to form part of Matt Smith's first series as the Doctor.

"Steven Moffat wrote me the letter telling me that they were out of money, and that because I'd written a very expensive episode they were bouncing me to episode three of the new season," he claimed.

He added that the move required rewrites to incorporate the character of Rory (Arthur Darvill).

"I wrote another version of it, with Rory in, because now he existed again," he quipped.

I think Suranne might be Zoe, given Wendy Padbury is retired nowdays.

They might start returning, given Zoe's intellect and the fact that the Time Lords are now gone (especially if the memory wipe was like the "mental blocks" that were put in the Third Doc's mind)....

She still remembers their first adventure, Wheel In Space, but she doesn't remember anything else.

That's assuming you don't subscribe to the "season 6B" theory. *MASSIVE SIGH*, get a life, etc.

Excellent. A Mexican bandit with a ridiculously over-the-top accent.

Hurrah!

Yes, sadly, we're either going to get the War Chief regenerated into a 31 year old Chaddertonian woman or Zoe has somehow got herself a different face and recovered the memories wiped by the Time Lords through hypnosis.

I assumed it was the woman ambulance driver, Lady Whatshername.

Sorry, I'm mistaken. The season 6B theory relates to Jamie. I'm sorry, The Five Doctors phantoms were confusing me and other things.

Season 6B tries to address the continuity error due to The Two Doctors having only Jamie as the 2nd Doctor's companion, even though he never travelled alone with Jamie; he was always accompanied with either Victoria, Zoe or Ben & Polly. The stories also lead into each, so there is really no possible way they could have had an adventure alone together. Which, of course is what happens in The Two Doctors. My brain is beginning to melt, so yeah. The theory states that they meet up again after The War Games because the Timelords didn't force him to regenerate straight away. Between the end of The War Games and when we see Pertwee falling out of the TARDIS in Spearhead is when season 6B is supposed to have happened. Fuck knows. I'm losing the will to live.

It was devised by Paul Cornell apparently, which is all you need to know. Not that you wanted to know, like.

In The Two Doctors, Jamie mentioned that they'd dropped Victoria off temporarily while he and the Doctor went off on their mission for the Time Lords, so it's possible that The Two Doctors takes place between The Ice Warriors and The Enemy of the World or between The Web of Fear and Fury from the Deep.
