Two new build-a-figure ranges coming from Underground Toys. Found these pictures on Toy News International:

Gelth:

To my mind, this stinks. Most of these figures are ones that have already been released, and many are now on clearence. The words flogging and dead horse spring to mind. Either that, or the company has vastly overestimated their sales figures (see my other post) and have been left with a warehouse full of figures they are having trouble selling. Even Asda has reduced the price of Series 4 to £4.

The worst part is having to buy 12 figures to get the parts for the wasp. Not the most popular monster or episode from season 4 anyway, and most collectors will already have these figures in their collections. Plus how many parents are going to buy figures their kids already have just to get the parts? Expect to see a plethora of loose Series 4 figures on Ebay very soon.

The vespiform BAF is a con. Almost all of the figures have just been released before Christmas without the BAF parts included. People need to buy 11 figures they already have plus the 25 pack adipose to build the wasp!

Tell me about it. I took one look and was disgusted.

Having said that, I know a few American collectors who are getting excited about the clear blue Gelth part. They are planning to get it to add to their Indiana Jones sets as the ghosts/wrath of God coming out of the Ark of the Covenant. THat seems to be as far as the excitement is going in the collecting community.

Interesting. I think CO have scored an own goal here in the PR department. Time will tell if it impacts on sales.

Well, London Toy Fair 2009 is 28th to 31st of January, and New York Comic Con 2009 is February 6th to 8th. I know that CO are exhibiting at London. Not sure about NY. Toy News International will probably have coverage from both fairs. Their forums are usually a very good indication of the mood of collectors about a particular range of toys, so I will keep my eyes open.
