When the Third Doctor said his life had "covered several thousand years" he was describing how many periods of history he had experienced, not how long he had lived, especially since the Second Doctor approximated his age as about 450.

This shows, once again, that he knows fuck all about Doctor Who. He seems to be under the impression that the regeneration limit is just a passing comment, as opposed to a central plotpoint to several important stories in the late 70's and 80's.

As for his prediction that the 507 thing will never stick, he's underestimating the rabid RTD-fanboys that infest fandom at this point.
