Sorry about this, it's on here somewhere already but I just spent the last 20 minutes looking and can't find it anywhere.

Just wondering if there's a list of what the RT has fucked around with on the DVDs?

Top man Pex.

Not as bad as I thought either.

It doesn't list everything of course - such as the Dalek 'stutter' in the climactic scene of Genesis being removed.

I think that's the only one I can't get over. That and the credits being redone - just no arghhhh, it spoils that intangible cosy feeling of vintageness

You'll quickly lose any feeling of cosiness when you hear about former

Laughing good question! I'd just based it on assumptions more than ideas really, and insinuations by other fans.

Most of it's just tinkering, although tinkering with archive television is a controversial business. There are those of us, such as me, who would prefer they stuck to their original brief and just restored the picture and sound. Personally, I was always quite happy with most of the old video cassettes for their picture and sound quality, and the Restoration Team had no involvement in most of them anyway. The only problem is that tapes wear out and the machines are disappearing anyway. Clearly we want the shows on the latest formats, but they go further than they need to.

I mentioned on TAZ that a dream of mine is to get hold of the 16mm originals myself and do my own restorations. I have the software, so yeah.

I do love what they've done with The Silurians, though.

I think the Restoration Team have done a great job with the restorations of the old black and white episodes and, as you say, the Pertwee episodes where the original colour master tapes were wiped. That is, of course, why the Restoration Team were originally set up in the early 1990s, to restore the colour to the black and white Pertwee episodes.

But all Doctor Who episodes, Tom Baker onwards, exist on their original master tapes and so don't actually need a huge amount of work on the whole. The Restoration Team make a big fuss about the amount of work they have to do to correct scratches, dropout, tracking errors etc., but I have DVDs of old programmes like The Fall and Rise of Reginald Perrin, Blackadder etc., which look fine on DVD and they haven't had the kind of attention the Restoration Team lavish on Who DVDs. So I personally suspect that the Restoration Team make rather more of their job on colour episodes than they actually need to. When it gets to the point, such as on the Pirate Planet, where they are actually changing effects, that seems to me to suggest that they are either trying to make a mark for themselves or they are simply bored by routine restoration jobs.

I have to admit I liked/enjoyed them 'restoring' the 'freeze frame' cliff hanger somewhat to Deadly Assassin Episode 3 ..
