I really enjoy TOS as a concept, yes it was a bit hokey, as most 60's american shows were, but the characters and actors and most of the ideas were brilliant. Shatner gets a lot of stick, but he is one of the great American Icons.

TNG suffered a lot from a really really terrible 80's hangover design. The one piece suits, the slumpy conn chairs, Worf's massive forehead, soft focus lighting. And then the writing was really stuck on the border between 80's and 90's too. The concepts were all there, just stuck in hokey cokey land. Even Tasha Yar's death didn't really do anything.

However, by the time we got to the last three series, it had really matured. The Designer had been replaced. Patrick Stewart had turned from a damn fine actor into a truly great one. the stories were imaginative and tightly plotted. Data and Worf had become pivotal characters, the boring Geordie, Riker, Crusher and Troi were relatively sidelined and you had Dwight Schulz as Barclay, one of the best characters in the whole franchise.

DS9 was trying to be Babylon 5. Again, the first three series were pretty abysmal in terms of acting, design, lighting etc. But also again, once they'd got Worf on board, kicked out Jake, toned down the boring Bajoran Religious crap, worked out who the interesting characters were (Quark, Garak, Dukat, Kira, Sisko, Morn among others. had the most interesting characters out of the lot) and actually built on the fantastic scenario they had, it turned into an absolute belter that just got better and better.

Voyager started off the best of the new shows. Janeway and Chakotay were perfect from the beginning and the Doctor is the best character from any of the shows, no question. It had a fantastic scenario that was really played up to from the off, the design was excellent from the off. It had me hooked from the word go, which none of the others did. The only real mis steps were Kes and the Saskia/Kazon storyline for the first couple of seasons, but even then they weren't disasters. And then the Borg and 7 of 9 came into it and then Reg Barclay Smile Just perfect. It felt like a journey. The amazing thing about Voyager was that it didn't get stale as it could so easily have become.

I'm ambivalent about Enterprise. I remember watching the first episodes and thinking this is shit on a stick, but I've also seen some of the last episodes, and thought they were pretty good. It was canceled in it's fourth season, so I'm prepared to accept that if it had run true to form for Trek, it was picking up and could have gotten really good. Theme tune was still abysmal though. Must watch it all the way through at some point.

The TOS Films are amazing, all of them. I seem to recall The Motion Picture being the first movie I ever went to see at the cinema with my Dad. Khan's better, but I still get chills at the Motion Picture.

So yea. I think that confirms Voyager as my favourite.

If anyone doesn't already know, the whole lot can be watched free online if you do a bit of google digging Smile

No offence to War Arrow, but here's a previous thread including mine and others' comments:

Nice to read input from people who've joined since though! Cool

Btw... I voted TOS again. Very Happy

The original series alone. I can't stand any of the spin-offs.

That film gets a lot of stick that it truly doesn't deserve.

Jerry Goldsmith's soundtrack for this film is truly astounding:

DS9 is the only ST series I have on dvd. TNG had its moments. That's about it for me though. I like the movies with the original cast, mind. Not seen the new one, not bothered. How can you recast Captain Kirk ffs? Sick to death of reboots, remakes, reimagining and other shit like that. Regurgitations is more like it.

Im always the lone weirdo who stands up for enterprise Laughing If you're game, I would definitely recommend persevering with seasons 2, 3, and 4. There are sincerely some great episodes in there.
I think some of the biggest issues with the show were the theme song and lack of star trek in the opening titles; the casual viewer/ knuckle dragger would probably found this a turn off. I think jolene blalock was pretty fit, but it could have used a blond with silicon for the casual male demographic to 'focus' on. I think these factors greatly contributed to its demise, as by season 3 an 4 most episodes were actually awesome imo.

Anyhoo, I voted DS9 on this occasion, but a few weeks ago I would have said enterprise and a while before that TOS Wink

Anyone remember the episode that's set in the goatee-verse and ties in wih 'The Tholian Web'? I saw years ago, before I even knew the connections with TOS. I remember thinking it was cool though.

Good stuff Ludders!!! I see someone else was watching the same show as me Laughing

I secretly suspect a lot of people were watching eastenders or the news or football or something and simply made the mistake of thinking they were watching the enterprise series. Hence all of the bad feeling about it.
