Is that not basically what is happening anyway, except that no poking with sticks is necessary. Ian can get ENRAGED all by himself for the amusement of the internet mob.

Yes , this is also true. It is a known fact that Ian doesn't drink alcohol. I imagine that he may be like Chanthro, the alien from NuWho episode 'Utopia', who generates her own internal milk. Except, in Ian's case it is loopy juice which is created. The effect of which may be catalysed or enhanced by the ingestion of curry.

Statement by Levine at Tubster Towers on his spat with Dan Hall.

Quote:
I would like to come forward at this moment and make a statement, so people stop accusing me of calling Dan Hall a word beginning with "c", when I never have.

I like Dan Hall very much. I think he's a lovely fun person to be with. I have had dinner with him on six separate occasions and he has been to my house.

But I think he is a very stubborn man, much like myself, who will not listen to reason and who, similar to JNT, once he's made his mind up that he doesn't like something, then a herd of wildebeest tugging a mountain range behind them couldn't change his mind.
Dan likes "yes men", and certain individuals on here reinforce that by their constant bleating and politicising, defending his each and every decision.

He has done some wonderful things for the DVD range, but he has done some God-awful things too.

He frustrates me terribly because he puts his extras before the programs themselves, and I think priorities should have been made like getting Mind Of Evil part one into colour, like releasing the extended Silver Nemesis, and like releasing recons like Galaxy Four that he actually paid for.

I also think the treatment Derek Handley got by them is reprehensible and loathsome. And I was used as the scapegoat, to try to further alienate me from fans of the way the DVDs are now put together.

But I still like Dan, and his partner Moray, and wish we hadn't fallen out. I also even more wish I hadn't fallen out with Steve Roberts. But I did.

The Doctor Who DVD range is second to none, but I hate their stand on recons, which they haven't given a chance.
Ed Stradling, who is still my dear friend, hates recons, and Dan listens to him. I will never fall out with Ed, because if that was going to happen, it already would have. But I feel with every fibre of my being that Dan is WRONG. And he is far too influenced by Ed's opinion, which can also be very strong and ungiving and intransigent as well. And if he let his ego relax for a moment, he'd find there are talented fans out there who could help the DVD range achieve what it most needs - to affordably animate the missing stories. In my own opinion, Mark Ayres needs to make unnarrated soundtracks more freely available, and let fans do their own tests and experiments.

I truly thought that doing a deal with iTunes and releasing the recons that way, affordably, was the blessing we all hoped for. However, as fate would have it, once Dan came along, into an area which, prior to January this year, was never his remit, the misfortune that hit the plans was so ironical it was almost a joke. Like the worst case of "what can possibly go wrong".

In the 1980s, I spent six years with JNT as his script consultant. And now I can see many of his traits reflected in Dan. I still liked JNT as a person, and despite our falling out, I felt terrible sorrow at his death, especially when, in his very last ever interview, he tried to reverse the harm that had been done, and speak kindly of both me and Eric, both of whom he wronged terribly in his lifetime.

I have tried to reason with Dan but gave up in the end. He will always do things his way. I am sad that as brilliant as the range is, we could get even more special things if he stopped for a moment, put personal prejudices aside, and opened up his heart and his mind.

And I have opened up my heart with this post, and bared my soul.

I have been totally sincere here, and only hope my words aren't used as a weapon against me.

The other 106 missing episodes should all get a chance to be seen visually, and no, Dan, consuming the narrated versions is not enough, and in many many people's opinions, they are not "fabulous" at all. They are a grossly poor substitute for the recons - not in the same league.

There is now a decent quality recon made for all but five stories, and those will be done sooner or later, despite the attitude of the hierarchy not exactly giving Loose Cannon anything to sing and dance about.

The remaining twelve Jon Pertwee episodes which are not in colour need to ALL be. I mean ALL - every singe one of the twelve. This has to be far more priority than any other VAMS.

It has to be about the show.

However, similarly, I wish Dan Hall were actually put in charge of new Who releases, because the lack of deleted scenes there is now intolerable, for the price they charge and the obscene profit they make. I may have my opinions about Dan Hall's faults but he'd certainly do a better job than those other tossers at 2/E who don't even care about how shoddy a job they might be doing. If they could stick their shoddy releases on a second hand CDR to save money, they'd be happy to.

So, everyone, I wanted to set the record straight for once and for all. However controversial I have been, I do care for Doctor Who, and however much people may challenge or misunderstand my motives, I will not rest until every one of those missing episodes can be watched in some form, and every Jon Pertwee episode is back in colour.
