Dragonfire got rid of Langford and Glitz for good so it's not all bad, and the scene of Kane committing suicide was pretty well executed (pardon the pun).

I still maintain that Season 29 was the lowest of the low.

I might have to "borrow" B's. Wink

I acquired it via the magic box in my room.

It hasn't improved. Even the commentary sent me to sleep. Spending more than 20 minutes with Pip and Jane is rather like having to endure your partner's grandparents for the day.

The extras are shorter than a mouse's cock, and the main extra makes a number of omissions with regards to Grade's involvement in the show's demise.

Sylv comes across as the nicest man in the world, ever.

Yes, i wasn't holding out a lot of hope of much from this release.
However, the completeist in me will no doubt feel obliged to engage with it sooner or later. Laughing

I mean the worst classic season. I don't consider the RTD era Doctor Who. Laughing

Time and the Rani also has some of Keff's best music ( http://www.freewebs.com/dwmidi/The%20Sixth%20Regeneration%20-%20Time%20and%20the%20Rani.mid ). Keff was a master at using the pitch bend wheel. Laughing SOunds like the haunted house on Super Mario Bros.

Bearing in mind that I generally loathe the McCoy era, TATR is piss poor but it's not the worst.

It's good to see Kate O'Mara's Rani again, although Colin was a far better foil for her.

Pip and Jane's ideas of SF might be a bit hokey and they may not be the top tier of Who writers but I think all their stories suffer from being in the dog end of the JNT era. Even then, I think Mark... and ...Vervoids hold up pretty well.

The SFX are quite good for the time, and quite a step forward with the use of CGI... although there were perfectly good practical effects for 20+ previous years and arguably this was the start of the style-over substance RTD CGI crapfest.

McCoy's gurning and pratfalling is hugely irritating but he seems to acknowledge this in the extras.

Interestingly it seems that Grade and Powell wanted Ken Campbell rather than McCoy but JNT filmed auditions by two actors he considered inappropriate for the role to show McCoy in a comparatively good light. Their auditions are included but, disappointingly, Ken Campbell's isn't.

There's a general undercurrent of dumping on JNT from the interviewees (which I'm sure is justified).

As terrible as it is, it just about manages to be bloody awful Doctor Who... before the Cartmel God turd-on-a-rotisserie wankfest kicks in the next season.

Managed to watch Ep 1 of this, but had to give up.

How in the hell Dr Who lasted beyond S24 is beyond me......

The only minor plus point is that the FX are quite good for the time, and the budget, and i suppose you could say that Kate O'Mara does a fair job, considering it's such tripe. But fuck me, it's just so Rentaghost it's untrue. Fucking awful.
Gonna have a look at the extras and then file it away as deeply as possible, under: 'Reference Only'.

Cheers DL. Wink

The McCoy forward roll in episode 1 was where I turned it off originally but since came back to it. The first time I saw this episode was last year. All I could think about was the faces on the staff when McCoy jumps off his bed and says, "Where am I? Who am I? What am I and...who are you?! The Rani!" before launching himself into a poorly executed forward roll, nearly breaking his neck in the process, and continues to act like a complete twat for the rest of the serial. Once you get over that it's not too bad. Laughing

Laughing

I suppose the fact that Time & the Rani somehow manages to be slightly less deeply embarrassing than Paradise Towers, is a point in its favour as well. Laughing

In fairness to Time and the Rani and Paradise Towers, they're not Delta and the Bannermen, Silver Nemesis or Battlefield.

Yeah, Delta & Nemesis are unutterably piss-poor, but i have a strange tolerance for Battlefield that i can't fully explain, beyond enjoying Jean Marsh's icily camp performance of Morgaine. Laughing

Paradise Towers & Crapiness Patrol are my least favourite McCoy's though. Very Happy

Did you see Kevin Clarke on the extras of Nemesis?

Came across as a complete up-his-own-arse bell-end.

The day after I saw that, I had the misfortune to watch two episodes of the dire third series of Wish Me Luck that he'd written.

Apart from the plots being utter bilge, everyone spoke like Violet Elizabeth Bott... and having seen him interviewed, I could hear him saying every word.

Oh yeah, a ringpiece of the highest order. Rolling Eyes Laughing

eBay was the only place for my Silver Nemesis disc, once my PC has "referenced" it. Wink

No problem.

I think I named the disc appropriately, don't you?

Yep. Although you were perhaps a little kind. Laughing

I like Battlefield too. I saw it first as it was being repeated during the '90s and I think having to wait an entire week for the next episode really helps it. But McCoy is actually really comfortable in the role by this point and I do actually enjoy his performances in season 26.

It's no Terror of the Autons obviously, but I think it's pretty enjoyable.

Sorry, I can't get on with Season 26. Battlefield is mortifyingly awful. McCoy's performance is bloody ridiculous.

He does have his "angry" moments. Confused

Yes, well I'm not a fan of that but you can't blame McCoy.

He is actually Merlin-like in the new series, almost as if they carried it on from season 25/26. *sigh*
