Remember The BBC NEVER Produced the two Peter Cushing Dalek films in the mid sixties.....
....despite them "Owning" the copyrite and characters etc......

....indeed Television "Doctor Who" with William Hartnell, was going strong ALL through 1965 and 1966 when those two Peter Cushing films came out......running for some 48 weeks a year...with NO Repeats and great stories lasting six, seven,......even TWELVE episodes....!!! Cool

I recall going to see "Dr.Who and The Daleks" one Saturday Matinee in 1965 .....then coming home to watch William Hartnell in another ongoing story that same evening.....those were the days ! Cool Cool Cool Cool

They did need to do it under licence from the BBC though. I just doubt they would do something similar these days

Ah yes, that would be the out of luck actor who got rave notices for his performance in the brave and groundbraking film Gypo last year. And the same out of luck actor who has continually worked since appearingin the Monacled Mutineer. And the same actor who starred in one of the greatest British comedies of all time.

Over 20 years ago I believe?

I just don't see McGone being asked to do this I'm afraid.

You don't have to see it Rani, only Sax, Jackson or whoever picks up the film rights will have to see it and McGann WILL say "YES!"

It'll probably still be rubbish.

Breadth of vision is something you have to factor out of film and TV, I fear.

Well RTD is far less likely to get the rights considering that:
1)He knows fuck all about the film industry.
2)Those in the film industry obviously think his ideas are crap hence why they all want McGann back and
3)He can't even keep to schedule over a TV programme and can't even keep the pace to make a series in 2009 the skiving incompetent lazy layabout. And also
4)Unlike the BBC RTD isn't interested in making a film because he'd rather make trash shitty tv like Big Brother, Coronation Street and the Chuckle Brothers.

So both Sax, Jackson and McGann have far, far, far, far more chance than your precious RTD I'd say Rani!

Out of curiosity, Subotsky optioned three Doctor Who films
from the BBC; I wonder what happened to the option
to make a third one ? I heard at one point, a group of fans were trying
to purchase the option to make a "Doctor Who" fan
film: there was talk about Michael Sheard playing
the Doctor in it.

I heard vague stories about the third one running into trouble because the script contained morse code or something Confused DWM did a third part in comic form around 1996

Interesting. A mention of the proposed third film here:

Quote:
The Doctor Who franchise would remain within the hands of Milton Subotsky until the mid-nineties with, at one stage, the late Michael Sheard being connected with a third new project, which ultimately remained unrealised. Subotsky had also attempted to make Doctor Who's Greatest Adventure in the 1980s with one of the television Doctors, possibly Jon Pertwee, but backing was not forthcoming. Milton Subotsky died in 1991, with no third Dalek or Doctor Who movie ever making it to the
silver screen
.
