I'm not going to make anymore predictions. I haven't had one correct so far.

But I hope Uruguay win.

Uruguay 2 Holland 3

Bollocks. Oh well. My team go out at the penultimate stage. I'll take that because it puts one of the most important nations in football history back on the map.

I don't like this Dutch side - they're far too cynical. Not worthy of the same jerseys as Cryuff, Neeskens, Rep, and co. I hope Germany or Spain win, preferably Germany as they've played the best football so far.

They are really boring to watch. I think their wingers stay far too wide leaving the striker far too isolated. They need to play a little narrower, imo, so there wingers can cut inside and get in the box.

After I've said that they will probably win it now.

I would fancy Germany over Spain but it's a hard one to call. Like DL said, Spain won't be as naive and Germany will find it hard to counter but I just think they flood forward so fast and with numbers that it's going to be hard to stop them. Not to mention how fast they get back into their defensive positions. I don't think they solely rely on the break either. They can break down teams without relying on the counter attack.

EDIT: Did I mention Robben is a dick-cheese burger?

I have a feeling about the Duch this year. They are a typical World cup winning side; their teamwork and ability to grind out results is reminiscent of Italy 4 years ago, and the more methodical German team which won in 1990.

I don't think Germany will be able to flood forward as they're going to be up against a team which keeps it's shape and is tactically astute enough not to throw all of their midfield players forward into attack. They problem they're going to have against the Spaniards is that they have the ability to play through them - even if they do take up good defensive positions.

I think Germany can do it if they get the early goal and Spain have to be more adaventurous later in the game, but I've seen nothing of Germany that makes me think they can break down Spain's defence in the passage of normal play. Oz were fucking awful in the first game, Serbia kept deep and beat them, Ghana were unlucky, England gifted them their first 2 goals, and Argentina played like children in a 5-a-side. Germany are good, but they aren't that good.

Well obviously they won't commit all their midfielders but, yeah, maybe they will find it hard to break down Spain. Spain have played some bad games also, though.

But I don't think any of the teams have been that great this time around. Brazil, Argentina, Italy and France have all been really poor.

I also think Germany are playing very similiar in style to the Dutch but they look more potent in attack and better defensively. But, really at this stage anything can happen. The best team doesn't always win and nerves can play a big part.

I've been completely wrong so far, though. Very Happy

ISpain won't pour forward like headless chickens and will keep it tight. I expect a 5 man midfield, Torres dropped to the bench with Villa up on his own.

Torres is on the bench, Spain starting with a 5 man midfield tonight Laughing

Del Bosque didn't call me - honest!

Oh, this could be a Mittelfeld/centro del campo classic. Too tight to call.

As I said, the Germans are a bit one-dimensional. Great on the break, but not much else. Spain's tactical caution, ability on the ball and pressing made it impossible for the Germans to flood forward at pace.

Would have been 2-0 if that numpty Pedro has not acted the fool during the 2 on 1 and passed to Torres. Rolling Eyes

Well the Spanish had much better players. Don't think their tactics are that great but they played well tonight.

Aw c'mon they were tactically spot on. They knew the German's could only play one way, so they stopped them from doing it

If they have one weakness it's the one pass too many syndrome most of their players suffer from.

Final is too close to call. It's going to be tighter than a young nun's snatch.

I'll go for a Spain win which means Holland will win.

Great mussel power and right on the ball where the result is concerned.
